Starknights Chronicles: Corridor 9
A downloadable game for Windows
I created Corridor 9 for “Shareware FPS challenge” on high-voltage.cz website. Its goal was to create a 90s feeling FPS shareware game with the help of Easy FPS Editor CE. I had two months to finish something and I wanted to feel it like a complete one episode of an old-school FPS game. So, it should have at least 8 levels, 4 – 8 weapons and be fun.
Well, after 2 months I ended with 7 levels (much simpler than I originally planned, good direction what I wanted could be the second level of the released game) and 6 weapons. And a world that was – in its core – a rip-off of “I am sure everybody knows” what. But I started to like it more, as I was developing the game. It ended like a video game adaptation of never existing Saturday morning cartoon.
Any problems chief?
Yes, a few minor ones. It could crash, not many times, but it can happen. I don’t 100% know why, because the game won’t give me any crash log. But I have my suspicion – it is probably because of the _loop script, that was labeled in the documentation as unstable, but in my game, I am using it for the grenade code (and in some levels for something else too).
Sometimes the sprites start to flicker and change for no reason. Or, I am not sure what it does why it does and when it does it :-). First, I though it is due the number of used sprites in the level, but I got the same behavior with a lot less sprites. So, no clue, how to fix this.
And finally, the big one. Projectiles not always detect their target. Annoying as hell when this happens. The solution (right now) is to be fast and change to a hitscan weapon (pistol or auto cannon). Sometimes also help changing the angle of fire, but it is not bulletproof. :( It also the main reason I didn’t labeled the release as version 1.0, but am still under this number.
2 months? Did you use in any chance a…?
Yes, of course. In the credits is often labeled under the name “Arty E. Ligenz” with specified tools used. It helped. Would I use it if the finished project would be commercial? I don’t think so. Remember this was (from the beginning) planned as a freeware and I tried to use as many “free to use” human made assets as possible. But I didn’t always get what I needed for the project. Sometimes used for creating variants of things I created, sometimes to smooth my own creations and sometimes for music. There are few examples showed in the end credits of the game.
In the end, I hope whoever download this game would have fun playing it. And that is all you want, if it is only a small hobby project. Enjoy and have fun.

want to try this! but windows keeps saying its a virus :(
Hi, if it is the blue screen with "Windows protected your PC", then it is fine. Just unrecognizable executable by Windows, click on "more info" and "run anyway".
This message will appear when Windows does not know anything about the app you are trying to run. Usually, this appears on apps with unknown publishers.
so the first time I unpacked it I had no issues,, played it for abit and shut it down. When I tried it later on windows deleted the executable!
Said it was a Trojan:Win32/Bearfoos.A!ml...... whatever that is.
Since my machine survived the first playthrough I added it to my safe list..
playing through now.
I must say,, the art you have made for this is fantastic. I love the look of the game. For myself Id say this is likely the best looking EFPSE game,, well done. This makes me veryinspired to mess about. I was thinking of creating some special
meshes but what you have done has made me realize that simple works just as well!
